 | 29th Aug 2009 to 31st Aug 2009 | Upminster Depot open day (12 images)
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Upminster District line Depot was open to the public on 30th/31st August 2009. On display were various items of rolling stock past and present, including Met Electric loco No. 12 'Sarah Siddons' which transferred from its base at Ruislip depot the previous evening.

 | 5th Oct 2008 | District Line Training Train (12 images)
A few photos at various locations on the first trial run. The idea behind the training train is to allow trainee drivers to gain practical experience of carrying out shunt moves and diversionary routes which are either awkward to include in the usual training schedule or don't take place very often. As the booked train is of 'C' stock, it also provides the rare sight of this type of stock working to Ealing Broadway via the Piccadilly Line 'fast' lines between Hammersmith and Acton Town.

 | 21st Apr 2008 | 1938 Stock Uxbridge Specials & '7008' Prototype (20 images)
Yet another collection featuring the London Transport Museum's 1938 stock heritage train! This time it made three return trips from Ealing Common to Uxbridge. During a short layover in Ealing Common depot I was able to take some photos of unit 7008, car 17008 of which was the prototype for the D stock refurbishment programme. Despite having since been taken to Derby for a full refurbishment like the rest of the D stock fleet, the differences between car 17008 and the rest of the fleet are still apparent.

 | 15th Feb 2008 | Last silver train (13 images)
Today saw the operation of London Underground's last unrefurbished D78 stock train, marking the end of unpainted "silver" aluminium bodied trains on the network. Such trains first appeared on London Underground in 1952 in the form of the R49 stock. However, these have long since disappeared. The units operating the last journey (train 106) were 7534+7115 and have since been refurbished in Derby, thus marking the completion of the D stock refurbishment programme.

 | 16th Dec 2007 | East London Line Railtour (5 images)
On 22nd December 2007 the East London Line was closed to allow major upgrade and extension work to take place. The line will be operated as part of London Overground when it reopens in 2010. To mark this event, the London Transport Museum's 1938 Stock unit once again came out to play and worked a railtour starting and finishing at Ealing Broadway. It travelled along the District Line as far as Whitechapel Junction where it branched off onto St Mary's Curve (the only link between the East London Line and the rest of the Underground network). The train then worked back and forth along the East London Line visiting the New Cross and New Cross Gate branches more than once, before heading back round St Mary's Curve and onwards to Ealing Broadway via Embankment.

 | 16th Sep 2007 | 1938 Stock Heritage Run (16 images)
A railtour organised by London Underground's Operational Apprentices in aid of the Outward Bound Trust. Worked by the London Transport Museum's 1938 stock train, the tour visited the full length of the original Jubilee Line including the now disused section from Green Park-Charing Cross.
Starting at Ealing Common Depot, the train picked up the first group of passengers at Ealing Common and travelled via the Piccadilly Line to Rayners Lane. It then reveresed and travelled along the Metropolitan Line to Neasden where it crossed over to the Jubilee Line to Charing Cross. At Charing Cross the train reveresed and continued to Stanmore, where the first group of passengers detrained and the train was worked into the sidings. After the lunch break the second group of passengers were picked up at Canons Park. The train then made its way to Charing Cross for a second time where once again it reversed before making its way back to Stanmore then to Wembley Park, where the second group of passengers detrained. The train then ran empty to Neasden (although passengers with tickets for trips 2 and 3 remained on board), where the third group joined the train for the final visit to Charing Cross, then back to Neasden, Harrow, Rayners Lane and Ealing Common.

 | 15th May 2007 | 2009 Tube Stock (24 images)
Photos of the first of two pre-production trains of 2009 Tube Stock, which has recently been delivered to the Victoria Line's Northumberland Park Depot for further testing. A fleet of 47 of these trains will eventually replace the 1967 Tube Stock which currently operates on the Victoria Line.

 | 12th Apr 2007 | Aldwych (13 images)
A visit to Aldwych station, which was served by London Underground's Piccadilly Line until closure to passengers in 1994. Situated at the end of a short branch from Holborn, the site is now used for filming and other purposes. A train of 1972MkI Stock which used to operate on the Northern Line is kept on the branch and is still operational. The train can operate between Aldwych and Holborn when traction current is switched on by special arrangement.

 | 28th Jul 2006 | Landslip (4 images)
A particularly wet afternoon in west London resulted in a small landslip just east of Boston Manor station on the Piccadilly Line. An eastbound train departed Boston Manor station only to be confronted by the debris which it struck, although thankfully it was not serious and there were no injuries. The debris was later cleared and the line reopened the following day.

 | 9th Jun 2006 | Goodbye Shoreditch (8 images)
Shoreditch station, former Northern terminus of the East London Line, closed permanently on 9th June 2006. These photos were taken on the last day of opening. The station was closed to allow the construction of the East London Line extension.

 | 6th Apr 2006 to 10th Sep 2008 | Tube Trains on the Isle of Wight (27 images)
1938 stock can still be found in revenue earning service on the Isle of Wight's Island Line between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin, long after its withdrawal from service on London Underground. They have been converted to third-rail operation and are formed of two car units.
